Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS®) is an international voluntary stewardship program which founded by Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) in 1991 and is managed in partnership with the American Chemistry Council's Plastics Division, as well as 22 other associations around the world to reduce leakage of plastic resins and protect the Marine environment. Every segment of the plastics industry has a role to play — including resin producers, transporters, bulk terminal operators, plastics processors and recyclers — by implementing good housekeeping and containment practices. The message was simple: resin pellets should be contained, reclaimed and/or disposed of properly.
Today, OCS is active in more than 65 countries across six continents through partnership with more than 3,300 companies globally. OCS is now dominated by taking pledge, with business guidance manuals provided by the associations responsible for managing OCS in each country, and companies acting on the requirements of the manuals. In 2024, OCS will focus on implementing global projects through technical assistance, including expanded data reporting and external inspection projects. Starting in 2024, OCS requires all of its members to report data on a quarterly basis, including the type, weight or volume of any different forms of plastic resin that are not recovered. The Gulf Petrochemical and Chemicals Association (GPCA) is currently developing the OCS standard and review mechanism. The European Union has implemented OCS certification across its OCS membership.
As the only partner of the Plastics Industry Association to carry out OCS program in China, China Plastics Processing Industry Association (hereinafter referred to as CPPIA) is committed to implementing the OCS program in China, and will continue to pay attention to environmental protection and efforts to prevent plastic resins loss in the future, convey the value of OCS program to the world.
Our Mission
Create a world where plastic resin is responsibly handled and kept out of the environment.
